Beauty DIY: Soothing Eye Pads

Thursday, January 3, 2013

Hey you! I'm having the hardest time getting back into the swing of things after not working over the holidays. How about you? Getting up earlier and getting back into routine has given me the ole Puffy Eyes. One of my preferred remedies would be these Soothing Eye Pads. They're made with chamomile tea, which is one of my favorite healing herbs--so many use! The Soothing Eye Pads are great because they can be made ahead of time. Just brew, chill, spritz, and pop onto eyes. You'll feel better in 15 minutes. Here's how:

brew, chill, spritz

  • Brew 2 chamomile tea bags--I suggest 2 for a stronger tea.
  • Pour into a spray bottle and allow the tea to chill. Keeping It Real #1: sometimes I'll just make the tea and put the mug in the freezer.
  • Grab a couple of cotton pads or balls and spritz the cold tea onto them. Keeping It Real #2: sometimes I dunk the cotton pads into the chamomile tea--no spritizin'.
  • Place on your eyes for around 15 minutes.

T I P S

  • Although the chamomile tea is not consumed for this DIY, let's be on the safe side and avoid if pregnant/nursing or if allergic to ragweed.
  • This keeps for about 1 week in the fridge.
  • No cotton balls/pads? Put the used tea bags on your eyes instead!
  • Puffy and tired eyes aren't just for mornings! I've used these Soothing Eye Pads before a long night out (or after, aka Keeping It Real #3).

What's your favorite Beauty Remedy?

Elle! That is such a great idea! Thank you. I hope you get back in the swing of things real soon. I guess just because you have to, huh?

So coincidental that I just bought a chamomile tea yesterday thinking I'd be replacing my coffee habits with it, not knowing they could soothe the eyes too. Thanks for this.

I love using chamomile tea as a beauty product - I steam my face with it and then wash it with the tea! The skin looks so clean and pretty after it. Thanks for sharing this - your pics are so pretty!

This is a great idea, I've been having problems with dry, tired eyes for a while now so as I always have chamomile tea bags around I'll give this a go! Thanks :)

Ooooo....love this one. I don't get those expensive eye pads when you can do something so easy like this at home. And yes....the holidays are hard to recover from.

I save my chamomile, Sleepytime, and green tea bags to use as a natural astringent on my face later. My skin always feels so refreshed after!

Cucumber slices have worked well for me in past. Since I keep chamomile tea in the house this would be good in a cinch.

I hear ya on the getting back into the swing of things. Not so easy.

I've always just used the bags. :) You can also freeze the leftover tea in an ice-cube tray and use the cubes when washing your face in the morning to tone the skin and also prevent inflammation. :) If the skin is sensitive to cold, you just need to wrap the cubes in a piece of muslin cloth or cotton wool pad. x
