How To: Cranberry Eyes (Makeup for the Holidays)

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

I've still got cranberries on my mind! When it comes to eye shadow looks on here, I usually stick to neutrals. Today I thought I'd mix it up and add some color. I love how this cranberry shadow can be intensified for more pop, or just subtly blended--I am wearing it as a daytime look here. Also, it is really awesome for blue eyes. Since this shade leans more towards the pink family, it's not as austere as a red, making it wearable. In other words, you won't look like you're (a) sickly (b) realllllly ready extra early for Halloween. Try it!

primer (I used NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Yogurt)
NYX palette in Golden Rust Walnut Bronze
eyeliner
mascara
eyelash curler

Apply primer to lid. This allows shadow to stay on longer--this will definitely last through all of Thanksgiving. You'll notice I'm using NYX Jumbo Pencil in Yogurt instead, since I wanted more color.

Next, using a flat brush, apply the lightest shade to the outer half of the eye (1).

Using the other side of the flat brush, pat the gold shade into the other half of the eye (2).

With a fluffy blending brush, slightly blend where the two colors meet.

With a fluffy brush, pat the cranberry shade into the outer corner and then sweep into the crease (3).
Wipe away the excess onto a paper towel (or use another clean fluffy brush)
and then blend the crease out, using a windshield wiper motion (4).

Finish the look with eyeliner and mascara.

  • If you can't find the NYX palette, I know for a fact Maybelline and Rimmel have similar palettes. If you saw my Fall Shadow Palettes post, there are shades that can be used as well.
  • While I have shadow piled on for pics (and you still can't see how pretty it is!), this look can be toned down, by blending the cranberry color. It can be intensified by adding a dark brown or black to the outer corner and blended into the cranberry. Likewise, if you use a kohl eyeliner pencil, you can blend  it out to create a smokey eye as well.
